Goutam Ghosh & Goutam Ghosh & Jason Havneraas, PAARA (35 min). Film stills, 2018.
Shot in Jharkhand, India in 2017, PAARA tells the story of a ninety-year-old magician looking back at his past life, unable to distinguish between memories of magic and memories of reality. Scenes and moods are transformed when seen through the exploration of myths and rituals from past and future. In curtailment of closed conversations with the elements and their agencies, form and expression have realised and directed the plot in variable and probable directions.
The film travels to its logical conclusion through constant navigation and re-positioning, it drives itself to its end.
Goutam Ghosh & Jason Havneraas’ diverse interests in the opposition of humanism and mysticism led them into collaboration in early 2016. Their next project will be in the genre of science fiction, and is already in its early planning stages.
