Entrée is excited to present a live event at Landmark for Ludo Sounds — an ongoing podcast series that focuses on female contemporary artists working with sound.
Presenting a night of performances and interviews featuring Australian noise and installation artist Kusum Normoyle, collaborator experimental saxophonist Mette Rasmussen, and Norwegian vocalist Stine Janvin Motland. Working with the limits of the voice, both Normoyle and Motland will showcase their work and their vocal technique within an electronic context. The live event is presented in collaboration with Landmark.
STINE JANVIN MOTLAND (NO) Stine Janvin Motland is a vocalist, improviser and composer based in Berlin. Working with extended vocal techniques with everything from new music, to physical theatre, to improvisation and sculpture. Through recent projects such as album In Labour, and collaboration project Native Instrument with Felicity Mangan, Motland continues to push the limits of the human voice and the role of the singer by exploring its limits and implications. She also works with artists such as Lasse Marhaug, Maja Ratkje, Fred Lonberg-Holm, and Mats Gustafsson in a number of interdisciplinary projects. Selected recent performances include the Unsound Festival, Krakow; Performa 13, New York; Music Unlimited, Wels; Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Oslo; Festival CRAK, Paris; International Theater Festival MESS, Sarajevo; Pérez Art Museum, Miami; Festival Densités, Fresnes-en-Woëvre; Jazz á Luz, Luz- Saint-Sauveur; Nya Perspektiv, Västerås; and All Ears Festival, Oslo.
KUSUM NORMOYLE (AU) Kusum Normoyle is an artist and musician working with voice, feedback and noise for both performance and installation. She is currently a PhD candidate at UNSW Art and Design, Sydney, Australia, under the supervision of Douglas Kahn and is an active member of the Sound and Materials Research Group at UNSW Art and Design. Intervention and feedback resound across her performance and installation practice in explorations of voice, materials, and media. Her performances are brief, extreme and a physical display of screaming, amplification and feedback. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions, festivals and events including Primavera: Young Australian Artists, MCA Sydney 2013, ISSUE Project Room NYC, Superdeluxe at Artspace for the 17th Biennale of Sydney, Liquid Architecture AU, the NOWnow AU, N.K Berlin, UrBANGUILD JPN, Lines of Flight Festival NZ , and Dogodek: The Event, 29th Biennial of Graphic Art, Slovenia.
METTE RASMUSSEN (DK) Mette Rasmussen is a Danish saxophone player based in Trondheim, Norway. She works in the field of improvised music, drawing from a wide range of influences, spanning free jazz to textural soundwork. Rasmussen works on exploring the natural capabilities of her instrument--experimenting with the rawness of the saxophone with and without preparations. The last several years she has been highly active with concerts in Europe as well as in the United States, and Russia. She is seen in bands and collaborations with among others Alan Silva, Chris Corsano, Axel Dörner, John Edwards, Craig Taborn, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Fire! Orchestra.
