The Thinker, Flower Pot and Mush

Entrée is pleased to present a duo-exhibition, bringing together artists Sjur Eide Aas and Kamilla Langeland, who both recently graduated from Bergen Academy of Art and Design. The exhibition include four new sculptures, one of them a collaboration that started early this spring, and that will be growing throughout the exhibition period. Underneath the sculptures in the exhibition, lies a shared interest in understanding the hard problem of consciousness. This is known in neuroscience as whether the mind and body are separate materials, or whether consciousness can arise from purely physiological processes. 

Sjur Eide Aas (b.1989, Stavanger) lives and works in Bergen. Eide Aas holds a BFA from The Academy of Fine Art in Trondheim and recently graduated with an MFA from The Academy of Art and Design in Bergen. He works with sculpture and installation, often by collecting fragments of architecture and altered design in the cityscape. His installations reflect on the volatility of reminiscence and memory. With alertness to surfaces, his impressions are processed through drawing and become bits and pieces of information later reassembled in new ways. His reduced works, with just a bare minimum of information, is asking the viewer to fill in the blanks.

Kamilla Langeland (b.1989, Kongsvinger) lives and works in Bergen. Langeland holds a BFA from The Academy of Fine Art in Oslo and recently graduated with an MFA from The Academy of Art and Design in Bergen. Langeland takes use of snapshots, large format negatives, scientific photographs and vintage negatives, to make collages that often are overlaid with photograms, combining found objects with personal belongings to create large-scale silver gelatin prints. Some of the prints are hand-colored with pigments and embedded in wooden frames. Mainly concerned with freedom of the individual; her work deals with subjects such as psychology, gender identity, science and altered states of consciousness. Her working method is using free association in combining imagery and symbols from dreams and memories.
